Mixer is no longer operating, and the official sources available do not establish a typical or average amount its streamers earned. Microsoft announced the service’s closure in June 2020, with Mixer sites and apps set to redirect to Facebook Gaming starting July 22, 2020. Its historical monetization features show how creators could have earned on the platform, but they do not reveal what streamers actually took home.
How much did Mixer streamers make?
There is no reliable, representative figure in the official Microsoft and Xbox material cited here. It does not publish an average Mixer streamer income, individual creator payout examples, or a platform-wide earnings range. A dollar amount presented as the typical Mixer payout would therefore go beyond what these sources establish.
That gap matters: announcing a way to monetize is not the same as reporting creator earnings. Actual income would have varied by creator and circumstances, but the available sources do not quantify those differences.
How Mixer creators were expected to earn money
In a July 23, 2019 announcement, Mixer general manager Chad Gibson described plans to make monetization available to all streamers, beginning with Embers and followed by channel subscriptions and additional features. The post also discussed streamer analytics, a progression dashboard, and a planned Mixer Academy covering audience engagement, branding, monetization, and networking. These were plans described before the service closed, not evidence of current availability or a documented payout amount. Microsoft’s July 2019 announcement.

Embers and subscriptions indicate the kinds of mechanisms Mixer was developing; the announcement does not state how much a typical creator earned from them. It also does not provide enough information to calculate a standard income from views, subscribers, or platform activity.
Why Mixer’s growth figures do not answer the earnings question
A 2019 Microsoft post reported that monthly viewer hours had grown nearly 17 times since Mixer launched in May 2017, with average monthly growth above 12% over the preceding 25 months. Those are company-reported viewing metrics, not streamer revenue or evidence of a typical payout. Microsoft News Center Brasil.

Likewise, Microsoft’s 2020 closure announcement referred to more than 700 million people each month playing games, watching gaming video, or interacting in a gaming group across Facebook properties. That figure described Facebook’s broader gaming audience, not Mixer users or creator earnings. It cannot be used to estimate what Mixer streamers made. Xbox Wire’s closure announcement.
Why Mixer shut down
On June 22, 2020, Microsoft said it was closing Mixer operations because the service had not grown its livestreaming community to the scale needed quickly enough. The company said it would work with Facebook to help users transition and that Mixer sites and apps would redirect to Facebook Gaming beginning July 22, 2020. Microsoft also said Mixer technology would continue to be used across the company, including in Teams. Microsoft’s announcement.

Phil Spencer, then Head of Xbox, wrote: “Ultimately, the success of Partners and streamers on Mixer is dependent on our ability to scale the service for them as quickly and broadly as possible.” The statement explains Microsoft’s public rationale; it does not report streamer income.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can be concluded about creator earnings?
- Mixer is a historical platform, not a current place to stream or earn.
- Microsoft described Embers, channel subscriptions, and other creator-support features in 2019, but did not publish a representative earnings figure in the cited material.
- Platform audience or viewing growth statistics cannot stand in for a creator’s gross income or take-home pay.
Without reliable creator-specific payout records or a clearly defined earnings dataset, the most accurate answer is that a typical Mixer streamer’s income cannot be established from these official sources.
