Eva Marie Saint planned to celebrate her 100th birthday with a family gathering in Los Angeles on July 4, 2024. In a PEOPLE exclusive republished by Yahoo that day, she said relatives from Los Angeles, Chicago, Santa Barbara and San Francisco would come together for a celebration spanning four generations.

Saint described the gathering as a chance to spend her centennial with her family. “I’m looking forward to spending my 100th birthday in Los Angeles with my dear, dear family. Four generations of family members will be gathering together from Los Angeles, Chicago, Santa Barbara and San Francisco,” she told PEOPLE in the interview republished by Yahoo on July 4, 2024. The report described a plan for that date, not a recurring event or a celebration still to come.
What she said about life at 100
In the same interview, Saint said, “I certainly don’t feel 100 years old.” She also spoke about taking walks in the fresh air, watching baseball—especially the Los Angeles Dodgers—and enjoying time with family and friends. Those are her remarks in the 2024 feature, rather than a description of her habits today.
The career behind the milestone
The PEOPLE feature placed the birthday in the context of Saint’s screen career, which it said began in 1947. It noted her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for On the Waterfront (1955) and roles in films including North by Northwest (1959), Loving (1970), Because of Winn-Dixie (2005) and Superman Returns (2006). The feature also reported that she won an Emmy in 1990 for the television movie People Like Us and received four other Emmy nominations.

For family context, the feature said Saint married director, writer and producer Jeffrey Hayden in 1951; they remained married until his death in 2016. It reported that they had two children and three grandchildren.
