Jerry O’Connell said he was honored and excited to appear on The Big Bang Theory. In interviews published in May 2018, he also said he felt part of “something so special.” Those remarks describe what he said publicly about joining the show—not private feelings beyond what he shared.
What Jerry O’Connell said about joining the show
In a CBS Chicago interview published May 3, 2018, O’Connell described Georgie’s first appearance on the series as “such an honor” and “so crazy.” He said: “This is the first time George aka Georgie has been on Big Bang and it’s such an honor, it’s just so crazy.” CBS Chicago’s interview reported his comments.
He was also enthusiastic about being included in the wedding episode. TV Insider quoted him saying, “First of all, I love weddings so I’m so stoked I got invited!” He added, “I really do feel like I’m part of something so special.” The comments appeared in TV Insider’s set interview, published in May 2018.
Who O’Connell played—and why the casting stood out to him
O’Connell played adult George “Georgie” Cooper Jr., Sheldon’s older brother. Georgie had been mentioned before he appeared as an adult in season 11’s “The Sibling Realignment,” an episode connected to Sheldon and Amy’s wedding.

O’Connell drew attention to the show’s mix of younger and older versions of the Cooper family. CBS Chicago quoted him calling the combination of “a young Sheldon, an old Sheldon, a young Georgie and a young Missy” unusual, adding: “It’s groundbreaking stuff we’re doing here.” His response was therefore about more than getting a part: he was pleased to be included in a production that brought those generations of characters together.
