Brooke Hogan has described her estrangement from her father, Hulk Hogan, as a gradual separation rather than the result of one decisive fight. In her account, private disagreements, being shut out of parts of his medical care, concern about people around him and the emotional strain of the relationship led her to step back. She said they had not spoken for the two years before his death in July 2025. Her relationships with her mother, Linda, and brother, Nick, became separate points of rupture—not a single family dispute with one simple cause.
What Brooke said led her to step away from Hulk
Brooke’s explanation has been consistent on one central point: there was no dramatic final confrontation. In a July 2025 account, she said, “We never had a ‘big fight.’” Instead, she described private calls and disagreements that took an emotional toll. She said that after she and her husband, Steven Oleksy, moved to Florida to help with Hulk’s health issues, she was excluded from some of his surgeries. She later summarized the period by saying, “During the last two years, I had to step away to protect my heart.” Us Weekly’s July 2025 coverage reported her account.

In an April 2026 interview, Brooke added that her objections to people around her father, her pregnancy with twins and her need for a break all contributed to her decision to pull back. These are her recollections and interpretation of a private relationship; public reporting cannot independently establish the conversations or motives behind them. She said the estrangement lasted through the final two years of Hulk’s life. Us Weekly’s April 2026 report gives her later account.
A close bond and a real estrangement coexisted
Brooke has not described the separation as proof that she never loved her father or that their bond was always damaged. She said, “The foundation between my dad and me was incredibly strong,” while also describing a painful history and a period when she could no longer reach him. Hulk died at 71 on July 24, 2025, after a heart attack. Brooke’s grief and affection for him appeared alongside her account of their estrangement, rather than replacing it.

The family had already been presented to viewers as a close-knit unit through the reality series Hogan Knows Best, which began in 2005. But public family photographs and a television image do not establish what happened privately. Brooke later cautioned, “A collection of happy photographs isn’t necessarily the same thing as a healthy family dynamic.” The Associated Press’s contemporaneous 2005 profile described the family’s public reality-TV life as including regular arguments; that is context, not proof of the later causes of estrangement. AP’s reproduced 2005 reporting offers that earlier snapshot.
Why Brooke was not at Hulk’s funeral
Brooke said she did not attend her father’s funeral because she believed he would not have wanted a public funeral and chose to honor him privately with her family. She recalled him saying, “Just burn me up and throw me in the ocean.” The funeral itself was a private event. AP reported Brooke’s tribute to the father she said she knew beyond his public image. Some public accounts differ over invitations to other tributes; those claims should remain attributed rather than treated as settled fact. AP’s funeral coverage reports on the private service and her tribute.

Her relationship with Linda was a separate rupture
Hulk and Linda Hogan’s divorce was finalized in 2009 after 24 years of marriage. Brooke later described the divorce as creating a sense of triangulation in the family; that is her interpretation, not an independently established explanation for the later estrangements.
In March 2025, Linda said publicly that Brooke did not speak to the family and had not told them about her marriage or the birth of her twins. Brooke responded that she had separate reasons for cutting off each parent and alleged that she experienced verbal and mental abuse from childhood. Those are serious claims, and the available reporting does not independently verify them. Brooke married Oleksy in June 2022, and the couple welcomed twins Oliver and Molly in January 2025. Us Weekly’s April 2026 coverage recounts the competing public statements and Brooke’s explanation of the family rift.

Where things stood with Nick
Brooke’s relationship with her brother Nick is another distinct strand. In 2026, she said they were not communicating and that his public characterization of their relationship did not match her experience. She also discussed a dispute over sentimental possessions, but framed it as part of a wider rupture rather than the sole cause. Brooke said she had voluntarily removed herself from her father’s estate in 2023, describing that choice as separate from the later disagreement over personal items. The available accounts do not resolve the family’s competing perspectives. Us Weekly’s September 2026 interview reports her account of the sibling relationship and family history.

The public timeline shows a family whose reality-TV image, later separations and public statements cannot be reduced to one event. Brooke’s account points to a gradual father-daughter estrangement, a distinct break with Linda and a current lack of communication with Nick. The reasons she gives—medical-care exclusion, emotionally difficult disagreements, concern about people around her father and the need to protect her wellbeing—are her account of private events. Linda and Nick have made public statements of their own, and the reporting does not provide an independent way to settle every disagreement.
