His comments about being 40 pounds heavier after Chappelle’s Show describe weight gain during an earlier period—not a documented 40-pound loss.
What Dave Chappelle has said about getting fit
In a 2014 interview with CBS Minnesota, Chappelle said, “I go to the gym,” while noting that touring meant he had not been going much. The interview does not provide a schedule, exercises, or other details about his training.
In a 2021 conversation on The Joe Rogan Experience, as recorded in a third-party transcript, Chappelle said, “I got swole for a minute.” He also said he later stopped working out and recalled his last gym visit as being around February 2020. In that conversation, he described being bothered by rumors around the time he left Chappelle’s Show as one reason he started working out. The transcript is not an independently verified account of his measurements or training history.
What the 40-pound comment means
In a 2017 interview with Gayle King for CBS This Morning, Chappelle said he was “like, 40 pounds heavier” than during Chappelle’s Show. Asked how he gained weight, he answered, “By resting and eatin’ and payin’ attention to myself.” That is his personal comparison of a later period with his time on the show. It does not say that he subsequently lost 40 pounds or explain a later physique change.

Was there a specific workout, diet, or product?
The cited interviews do not establish a named diet, exercise split, supplement, trainer, or weight-loss program. Chappelle joked in the 2014 CBS Minnesota interview about a workout tape and “Forty-five day abs,” then clarified, “I’m not coming out with a workout tape.” The exchange is not evidence of a real product, endorsement, or routine.
