1923 honored Cole Brings Plenty at the start of its season-two premiere with an in memoriam tribute featuring him as Pete Plenty Clouds. The series also kept Pete in the story, recasting the role with Jeremy Gauna. Co-star Aminah Nieves said that continuing Pete’s story and supporting Gauna was a way to honor her friend.
What tribute appeared in the season-two premiere?
The premiere opened with a memorial image or footage of Brings Plenty in character as Pete Plenty Clouds. TV Insider described it as an in memoriam tribute, while TVLine reported a title card featuring Brings Plenty in costume. The reports establish that the tribute came before the episode; they do not establish the card’s exact wording. TV Insider and TVLine reported on the premiere on February 23, 2025.

Who plays Pete Plenty Clouds in season 2?
Jeremy Gauna plays Pete in season two. Rather than remove the character from the story after Brings Plenty’s death, the production recast the role. Brings Plenty had played Pete in season one; the Associated Press reported that he appeared in two episodes. Both TV Insider and TVLine reported Gauna’s casting and his season-two debut.
How Aminah Nieves explained the decision
Nieves, who plays Teonna Rainwater, described returning to the series as emotionally difficult and said she wanted to honor Brings Plenty while supporting Gauna. In an interview published by TV Insider on February 23, 2025, she called recasting Pete rather than writing him out “the best thing we could’ve done.” She also described Brings Plenty as her brother, saying he “lives on and with us every day.” Those comments express Nieves’s perspective, not an official statement on behalf of the production.

In a separate interview with Town & Country, Nieves said returning to finish Teonna’s chapter and honor Brings Plenty was “very difficult, but also a great reward.” The publication reported that Gauna was also friends with Brings Plenty and wanted to honor him.
