Trixie Mattel said she met David Silver on Tinder, where he was her third date. She remembered two details from his profile—a photo with a dog and one of him on a boat in Italy—and said, “I just felt like I needed to meet him.” They later separated; Mattel announced the split in December 2024.
How did Trixie Mattel meet David Silver?
Mattel gave the answer in a Vanity Fair lie-detector interview: Tinder. “Yep. Tinder. He was my third Tinder date,” she said. She recalled seeing Silver’s profile pictures with a dog and on a boat in Italy, and said the images made her feel she needed to meet him.
The interview does not establish who sent the first message. Mattel said she could not remember.
Why did Mattel keep parts of the relationship private?
In a 2019 Entertainment Tonight interview, Mattel described the relationship as three years old and said she valued a boundary between her personal life and her career. That was her perspective at the time; it did not mean she never spoke about Silver publicly.

How did their relationship become part of a television story?
In May 2024, Mattel told Out that she and Silver took a long time to move in together. She cited her work, the space her drag materials occupied, and touring for roughly half the year. Their home search and move-in process became the focus of Trixie Motel: Drag Me Home, which Out reported premiered on Max on June 1, 2024. That is historical release information, not confirmation of the show’s current availability.
When did Mattel and Silver separate?
Mattel announced their separation in December 2024. Out reported on December 30 that the split had happened “quite some time ago” and described the relationship as eight years long. The three-year figure in the 2019 Entertainment Tonight interview describes how long they had been together then; it is not at odds with the later eight-year account.

In August 2025, PinkNews reported Mattel’s reflection on the difficulty of performing while processing the breakup, including the experience of having filmed a season about their home after they had separated. Mattel characterized the split as not salacious and said it had simply happened; the available accounts do not establish a specific reason.
