Has House of the Dragon been renewed for season 3?
Yes. HBO announced the renewal on June 13, 2024, ahead of the second season’s premiere. Warner Bros. Discovery later announced that production on the eight-episode third season had commenced in the United Kingdom. HBO’s renewal announcement and Warner Bros. Discovery’s production notice establish the renewal and production milestones.

When did season 3 premiere?
HBO Max’s US help page lists the season-three premiere as June 21, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET. This is the US service’s listed date and time, not a worldwide release schedule. HBO Max’s US page for the series also identifies the show’s seasons and viewing information.
Where can you watch the series?
HBO Max’s US page lists seasons one and two as available and links to subscription information. Availability, subscription plans and features can vary by territory, so viewers outside the United States should check the service available in their country rather than assume the US listing applies.

The same US page says 4K UHD, HDR10 or Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos are available on select devices with the Premium plan. Those features are subject to the page’s US scope, compatible equipment and current plan terms.
What is the story based on?
HBO describes House of the Dragon as based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, with its Targaryen story set 200 years before Game of Thrones. The book offers background on the dynasty behind the series, but the adaptation should not be assumed to follow it scene for scene. HBO’s series page provides its official description.
