How did John Hughes come up with the premise?
In a 2015 retrospective, TIME recounted Hughes’s story that the idea came to him while he was preparing for a vacation and making a list of things not to forget. He imagined what would happen if he left his child at home. TIME also reported that Hughes wrote eight pages of notes as the idea developed into a screenplay. This is Hughes’s recollection as reported by the magazine, not an independently documented account of every step.

Where can you watch Home Alone?
Availability depends on your country and the date you check, so the studio catalog does not establish that the film is currently streaming on a particular service. Its catalog documents DVD, Blu-ray and digital purchase or rental formats. A digital purchase is intended for viewing without a rental deadline; rentals may have time limits, so check the specific service’s terms. See the studio’s film page for its format information, then confirm local availability with a retailer or streaming service.

For that particular edition, it lists English and Japanese audio and Japanese and English subtitles. Those details do not establish the contents, stock, price or compatibility of a package sold elsewhere. Check the local listing before buying.
