Chris Tyrrell’s reported step back from Lady Antebellum—now known as Lady A—was a temporary, tour-related arrangement in 2018, not a reported permanent departure. While Hillary Scott toured with the band, Tyrrell planned to stay home with their daughters.
Why did Chris Tyrrell step back from Lady A?
In an interview with People reported by Yahoo on April 12, 2018, Scott said Tyrrell would be “holding it down as Dad, hero” at home while she toured with bandmates Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley. Lady Antebellum’s Summer Plays On Tour was scheduled to begin in July 2018. The report described Tyrrell as stepping away “for the time being”; it did not say he was leaving the group permanently. Scott said the couple had made the decision together and felt settled about it: “We feel at complete peace with the decision.” Tyrrell described his different roles as bandmate, employee, husband and dad, adding, “I’ve been a bandmate, employee, husband and dad, so I’m okay removing a hat.” Those remarks present the arrangement as a choice the couple felt comfortable making for that period.
How the tour and family plans fit together
Scott connected the timing to her work on Heart Break: she had committed to making the album and touring, then wanted to expand the family. She said the couple had discussed their plans in relation to the band’s calendar. On tour, she intended to perform and focus on writing, including material for the next record, while Tyrrell took on the at-home parenting role.
