In 2021, Nickelback was writing and recording new music in Canada, while its catalog lists both the single “Rockstar Sea Shanty” and the live album Live from Red Rocks for that year. The band had not set a release date for its next studio album, and bassist Mike Kroeger spoke of booking a tour for the following summer—not of a confirmed 2021 concert schedule.
Nickelback was recording new music, but had no release date
In a July 2021 interview, bassist Mike Kroeger said the band was composing and recording in Canada as it worked on the follow-up to 2017’s Feed the Machine. Asked about the album, he said, “That is happening right now.” He also said, “We’re doing it on our schedule, at our own pace, and it’ll be done when it’s done.” The interview established that work was underway, not that the album would be released in 2021; Kroeger said no release date had been decided. Blabbermouth’s July 2021 report covered his comments.

Two releases appear in the band’s 2021 catalog
Apple Music lists “Rockstar Sea Shanty” as a 2021 single and Live from Red Rocks as a 2021 live album. Those catalog years identify the releases as dated to 2021, but the listings cited here do not provide exact release dates. The live-album listing also does not establish when the performance was recorded or whether a physical edition was sold.
- “Rockstar Sea Shanty” — listed as a 2021 single.
- Live from Red Rocks — listed as a 2021 live album.
Touring comments pointed to plans for summer 2022
An August 1, 2021 NME report said Kroeger described the band as booking a tour for the following summer. That indicates planning for 2022. It does not establish whether or where Nickelback performed during 2021, or provide a complete concert calendar for that year.

What the record does—and does not—show
The clearest picture is of a band working on its next studio album, with two 2021 releases listed in its catalog and a tour being planned for the next summer. The cited accounts do not provide a complete record of Nickelback’s 2021 public appearances, charitable activities, or performances, so they cannot establish that the band had no other activities that year.
