What does the number 73 count?
The Television Academy’s February 9, 2024 retrospective, “Seinfeld By the Numbers”, lists “Number of Jerry’s girlfriends: 73” alongside the show’s nine seasons and 180 episodes. It gives the figure as a series statistic, but does not say whether every girlfriend in the count appears onscreen.

A September 2026 account by Cuttings F&G says the total includes women mentioned but not shown, which would make an onscreen-only fan tally lower. That is secondary reporting, not a counting method confirmed by the Television Academy. So 73 is best understood as the show’s reported total—not as a verified count of every woman viewers see Jerry date.
Why do season-four figures sometimes cause confusion?
A reproduced excerpt of the Season 4 DVD facts track gives an interim counter update: Jerry had 20 girlfriends by the end of that season. The same excerpt lists George at 22 girlfriends, Elaine at 13 boyfriends and Kramer at 11 girlfriends.
