After a Massachusetts jury returned its verdict on June 18, 2025, Karen Read told people outside Norfolk Superior Court: “No one has fought harder for justice for John O’Keefe than I have.” She left with her attorneys and family. The verdict acquitted her of second-degree murder and manslaughter but found her guilty of a lesser drunken-driving charge. (Associated Press, June 18, 2025)
What Karen Read said after the verdict
Read’s reported remark outside the Dedham courthouse was: “No one has fought harder for justice for John O’Keefe than I have.” The statement was her own characterization of her pursuit of justice for O’Keefe; it was not an apology or a concession about the jury’s findings. She departed with her attorneys and family, while supporters cheered and celebrated outside the court, according to the Associated Press. (Associated Press, June 18, 2025)
The available report gives that sentence, not a complete transcript of Read’s remarks to reporters. It should not be treated as a full interview.
What the jury decided
The jury found Read not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter in O’Keefe’s death, and guilty of a lesser drunken-driving charge. The verdict was delivered June 18, 2025, in Dedham, Massachusetts. It was therefore a mixed verdict—not an acquittal on every charge. (Associated Press, June 18, 2025)

Read’s father, Bill Read, told the Associated Press, “I’m thankful that it’s over.” AP also reported that Read supporters celebrated outside the courthouse. Trial witnesses
Several trial witnesses issued a statement supporting O’Keefe’s family and describing the verdict as a “devastating miscarriage of justice.” That was the witnesses’ assessment, not a court finding or a consensus view. (Associated Press, June 18, 2025)
