After a delay following an undisclosed pre-production injury to Cavill, production was reported underway in London and Scotland by February 11, 2026. The latest status listed here, dated April 28, 2026, says principal photography is complete and the film is in post-production.
When did Henry Cavill’s Highlander start filming?
The September 2025 start was an earlier plan, not the actual start. Screen Global Production reported on February 11, 2026, that filming was underway in London and Scotland after the schedule was delayed when Cavill sustained an undisclosed injury during pre-production. Screen Global Production’s February 11 report attributes the production update to Amazon MGM Studios via Cavill’s Instagram.
Variety had also reported on January 30, 2026, that filming had started, alongside its first-look coverage. Variety’s report identifies Chad Stahelski as director and Michael Finch as screenwriter.
Where is the new Highlander filming?
London and Scotland were reported as filming locations when production was underway in February. On April 16, Screen Global Production said filming had been underway since February and that the production would move on to locations in the Scottish Highlands, Poland, and Hong Kong. That report describes further locations on the schedule; it does not establish that filming had already taken place in each of them. See the April 16 location update.

What is the latest production status?
The Film & Television Industry Alliance’s Production List, updated April 28, 2026, lists Highlander as in post-production and says principal photography has finished: Production List’s project entry. Its shoot-date field still gives September 2025, but that is the planned date and conflicts with the later dated coverage that reports the delay and February start.
The status information establishes that filming had wrapped by the April 28 listing. It does not provide a complete day-by-day filming calendar or a confirmed release date. An April report’s reference to 2027 should not be read as a specific release-date announcement.

Who is in the Highlander reboot?
Cavill stars, with Stahelski directing and Finch writing. Variety’s January 30, 2026, report also names Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang in the cast. The film reimagines the 1986 Highlander, which starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, Sean Connery as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, and Clancy Brown as the Kurgan. The franchise later expanded through sequels, a television series, and spinoff novels.
In the first-look post quoted by Variety, Cavill wrote: “This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.”
