Hawkeye never moved into a second season, but the available accounts point to two different obstacles rather than one confirmed cancellation reason: Jeremy Renner said he rejected an offer at half his first-season pay, while consulting producer Andrew Guest said Marvel’s timing and the pieces needed to align did not come together. Neither account is an official studio explanation.
Why didn’t Hawkeye season 2 happen?
The clearest explanation combines a reported compensation impasse with production timing. Renner described a pay offer he considered unacceptable; Guest described creative discussions that never aligned with Marvel’s schedule and other requirements. The accounts come from different people and do not establish a single, definitive studio rationale.
| Account | What was said | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Jeremy Renner, actor | In comments reported by ComicBook.com on May 1, 2025, Renner said he was offered half his first-season pay for an eight-month commitment, and that he declined. He said he wanted the same pay as season one, not a raise. | Renner’s description of the offer and his response; the contract terms have not been independently confirmed. |
| Andrew Guest, season-one consulting producer | In comments reported January 23, 2026, Guest said season-two ideas had been explored, but “the timing didn’t work out” with Marvel and the other pieces that needed to come together. | A production-side account of creative exploration and timing—not evidence of a greenlight or a formal cancellation decision. |
Renner blamed “the penny pinchers, the accountants,” and clarified that he meant Disney rather than Marvel Studios, according to ComicBook.com’s report. That is Renner’s characterization, not a confirmed Disney statement or independently verified contract record.
Was Hawkeye season 2 cancelled?
The cited accounts do not document a formal cancellation announcement. They indicate that a second season was discussed creatively, but do not establish that Marvel or Disney ordered it into production. Guest’s description of ideas being explored should not be read as a renewal.

What would season 2 have been about?
Renner described the intended direction as a continuation of the first season’s story within its Christmas framework. That indicates a creative intention, not a completed script, production plan, or confirmed season order. Guest said concepts had been discussed and explored, but did not provide a detailed plot.

The original Disney+ series pairs Renner’s Clint Barton with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, an archer who teams up with him. Disney’s press kit lists the series’ debut as November 24, 2021. Marvel has identified Matt Fraction’s comic run as a tonal touchpoint, but that does not establish that season two would have adapted a particular storyline.

The cited reporting does not establish a current renewal, release date, or future production plan. Guest said he would like to see Renner and Steinfeld work together again, but that expressed interest is not an announcement. Without a new official confirmation, there is no supported basis to say that another season is in development or scheduled.
