“Blind Spot” opens Streets of Philadelphia Sessions, a ten-song album included in Bruce Springsteen’s Tracks II: The Lost Albums. Springsteen said the song’s thread—doubt and betrayal in relationships—shaped the rest of the record. The album was completed and mixed for a planned spring 1995 release, then shelved when he chose to reunite with the E Street Band. The official announcement presented the collection as part of the June 27, 2025 release of Tracks II.
What “Blind Spot” is
“Blind Spot” is the first track on Streets of Philadelphia Sessions, one of seven previously unreleased full-length records gathered in Tracks II: The Lost Albums. The collection contains ten songs, according to the official track listing. It is not a separately announced physical single; the song is presented as part of the album and box set.
Why Springsteen wrote it—and followed its theme
Springsteen connected “Blind Spot” to doubt and betrayal in relationships. He said he did not know exactly why that became the theme at the time, but once he had the song, he followed its thread through the record. In the official announcement, he recalled: “That was just the theme that I locked in on at that moment. I don’t really know why. Patti and I, we were having a great time in California. But sometimes if you lock into one song you like, then you follow that thread. I had ‘Blind Spot,’ and I followed that thread through the rest of the record.”
How the album took shape
The sessions grew out of Springsteen’s interest in contemporary rhythms after the success of “Streets of Philadelphia.” He explored sounds including West Coast hip-hop, beginning with drum-sample CDs at his Los Angeles home. With engineer Toby Scott, he developed loops and built songs around them using keyboards and synthesizers. The label’s account says Springsteen played most of the instruments, alongside contributions from members of his 1992–1993 touring band and Patti Scialfa, Soozie Tyrell, and Lisa Lowell.

Why Streets of Philadelphia Sessions was shelved
The album had been completed and mixed for a planned spring 1995 release. Springsteen ultimately chose to reunite with the E Street Band, the first such reunion in seven years, and set the solo project aside. He described the decision as wanting to make music with the band and remind fans of that part of his working life: “I said, ‘Well, maybe it’s time to just do something with the band, or remind the fans of the band or that part of my work life.’ So that’s where we went.”
The project was not forgotten. Springsteen said he had long liked the album and had considered releasing it on its own during the Broadway show, but repeatedly put it away rather than discarding it.
