Heidi Klum appeared as Medusa at her 24th annual Heidiween party in New York on October 31, 2025. The custom look combined green scales and body paint with a headpiece of independently moving mechanical snakes—a grotesque, modern take on the Greek mythological figure.
What Heidi Klum’s Medusa costume looked like
The transformation covered Klum in painted green scales and body paint, topped with a snake-covered headpiece whose mechanical snakes moved independently. She also wore a custom split snake tongue. Klum told Vogue that she loved how real the moving snakes looked and called the tongue “just next level.”
Her husband, Tom Kaulitz, joined the Halloween party dressed as a man turned to stone, a pairing that echoed Medusa’s mythic power. The Good Morning America report covered the couple’s coordinated looks at the New York event.
How the costume was made
Klum worked with special-effects artist Mike Marino, a recurring collaborator, on the commissioned costume. Vogue reported that the idea came to her around April and that she then contacted Marino. More than 15 people worked on the result over six months, according to Vogue.

The application and dressing times were reported differently because they describe different scopes: Vogue said Klum spent nine hours in the makeup chair, while the Associated Press reported that she said getting into costume took 10 hours. The figures are not necessarily contradictory; makeup was one part of the broader process of getting into the full look.
Why Klum chose Medusa
Klum told Vogue, “I wanted to explore the classic monsters of history, and reimagine one in a modern way.” Medusa’s mysterious, ferocious character appealed to her. As quoted by the Associated Press, Klum described the intended result this way: “So I wanted to be really, really like a really ugly, ugly Medusa. And I feel like we nailed it — to the teeth,”
