What to know about the performance and the song
“Ego” arrived on September 6, 2024, five days before Halsey’s scheduled VMAs appearance. Sony Music Canada announced the single and described its music video as 1990s-inspired, directed by Halsey, and featuring Halsey in both lead roles. The label also announced Halsey’s planned performance of the new song at the awards.
The VMAs took place on September 11, 2024, at UBS Arena in New York, according to Paramount’s performer announcement. MTV’s playlist subsequently listed the “Ego” segment.
