What HBO announced about Season 2
In an official announcement on May 7, 2026, HBO said production on Season 2 was planned for autumn 2026. That is a production plan, not confirmation that filming has begun. As of October 8, 2026, the official sources cited here do not confirm a start date. HBO’s announcement also made Jon Brown a co-showrunner alongside Francesca Gardiner.

Gardiner said the seasons’ production schedules would overlap and explained that “bringing on a co-showrunner is the key to maintaining our momentum.” The overlap helps explain why HBO approved the next season early: work on it can proceed while Season 1 is still being made, rather than waiting for the first season to air.
When does Season 1 come out?
The current official Harry Potter series overview gives Season 1 a Christmas 2026 debut on HBO and HBO Max where available. It does not give a specific calendar date. So the series has an announced release window, even though it does not yet have a day-specific premiere date.

What Season 2 is expected to adapt
Season 2 is expected to follow Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second book in the series. TVLine reported that expectation on May 6, 2026, and noted that the season’s title had not then been officially confirmed. TVLine’s report supports describing the book as the expected story basis, not calling the season Chamber of Secrets as though HBO had confirmed that title.

No. HBO chief Casey Bloys said the network did not intend to release the series annually, while also aiming to avoid a long gap as the young cast grows. The renewal and overlapping production schedules may help limit delays, but they are not a promise of yearly premieres. TheWrap reported Bloys’ comments.
