What did Ryan Anderson say he had planned?
In an interview published by People on December 29, 2023, the day after Blanchard’s release, Anderson said he wanted to spend an evening alone with her after a family get-together and a spa day. “That night is when I’m going to get her to myself and have a romantic night out and take her on her first date,” he told People, as republished by Yahoo Entertainment.
What did he mean by a “real date”?
Anderson described the kind of outing he had in mind as going somewhere to sit and eat, and perhaps going to a movie. He said he wanted a candlelit place and that they would dress up. The interview did not name a restaurant, movie theater, or other venue.
Anderson also said that an earlier movie-theater outing with Nicholas Godejohn had been chaperoned and that Blanchard did not sit with him. That description is Anderson’s account in the interview, not an independently established detail in the reporting.

Did the date take place?
The available reports establish that Anderson announced an intention to take Blanchard out; they do not confirm that the planned date occurred. The Guardian’s January 3, 2024 account repeated his statement and said the couple planned to talk together nightly as they adjusted to the attention following her release. It likewise does not report that the date happened.
So the headline’s future tense reflects what Anderson said he intended to do at the time, not a verified later event. The reports do not provide a first-person confirmation or other confirmation of the outcome.
