Sebastian said his heart went out to Payne’s son, Bear, whom the report described as seven years old at the time. “I think probably the most tragic thing is him being a dad, him having a seven-year-old, you know my heart goes out to them. It’s always such a complicated thing.”
Why did he say there was “pain on so many sides”?
Sebastian spoke about both the family’s loss and the attacks directed at people reporting events or making allegations. “You’ve got to also feel for the family mostly for his loss and then there’s also people being attacked for reporting things or alleging of things,” he said.

He added that unanswered details can make grief more painful: “A death always, even speaking from experience, when there’s so many unresolved things just amplifies it so much.” He concluded, “So I think it’s sad, it’s just really sad.”
How well did Sebastian know Payne?
Sebastian cautioned against reading his comments as a close personal account. “I didn’t really have a lot to do with him, I guess there’s so many details that people don’t know,” he said. His remarks were a public expression of sympathy, not firsthand knowledge of Payne’s circumstances.
