Great Pretender: razbliuto is a four-episode sequel presented with movie framing, and its focus on Dorothy gives the original anime’s elaborate cons a personal afterstory. The official premise sends her from a seaside village near Taipei toward Kyoto after she is presumed dead; the series’ epilogue quality comes from turning attention to the woman whose past helped set Laurent’s story in motion.
Why Dorothy is the right character for an epilogue
The original Great Pretender follows Makoto Edamura and Laurent Thierry through globe-spanning confidence games. Dorothy stands just behind that ensemble story: WIT STUDIO describes her as the self-proclaimed genius confidence artist who brought Laurent into the world of cons. WIT STUDIO’s official synopsis makes her the sequel’s center rather than treating her as a footnote to Laurent’s past.

That choice makes the epilogue feel earned. A return to the same crew and another large-scale con might simply extend the original formula; following Dorothy instead asks what remains after the game, when identity, memory, and old attachments are less reliable than a well-rehearsed deception. DMM glosses razbliuto as “a sentimental feeling for someone you once loved but no longer love.” That distributor-provided explanation resonates with the premise’s focus on a woman separated from her former life, though it is a thematic clue, not a complete interpretation of the story.
What happens in Razbliuto
WIT’s synopsis says Dorothy was believed to have died after losing a game against the Shanghai Longhu Bang. She is found in a small seaside village not far from Taipei, then heads toward Kyoto while pursued by Taipei’s underworld. DMM’s promotional synopsis adds that Dorothy has lost her memory and that Jay, a young leader in that underworld, appears before her. The story therefore begins not with a confident mastermind controlling a con, but with someone whose past and loyalties are uncertain.
#1 Best Overall
The official synopsis teases what awaits Dorothy in Kyoto rather than spelling out the destination’s role. That restraint suits the series’ central tension: the audience knows she is tied to Laurent’s history, but the character herself cannot simply rely on that history as a map. The epilogue’s emotional stakes come from the gap between what other people know about Dorothy and what she can remember about herself.
How it fits the original anime
| Work | Format and focus | What it offers viewers |
|---|---|---|
| Great Pretender | 23-episode anime; Makoto Edamura, Laurent Thierry, and ensemble confidence games. | The broader con-game world and the relationships that establish Dorothy’s significance. |
| Great Pretender: razbliuto | Four episodes; Dorothy’s return and backstory, presented by the official title site as a movie. | A more concentrated continuation that shifts the point of view toward a figure from Laurent’s past. |
The original is the better starting point for viewers unfamiliar with the franchise: its 23 episodes establish the characters, the scale of the cons, and Laurent’s connection to Dorothy. Razbliuto is more rewarding as a follow-up than as a standalone introduction, because its premise deliberately draws on a backstory the first series has already made consequential.

Does it work as a fitting epilogue?
As a critical judgment, “fitting epilogue” describes the sequel’s change in emphasis, not an official label. Dorothy’s return reaches behind the original’s heists to examine a relationship that helped create Laurent as a confidence artist. The title’s gloss about lingering sentiment gives that return an apt emotional frame: what is left of a bond when memory and affection no longer line up neatly?
The format also supports the epilogue reading. Four episodes make this a compact coda rather than another full-length season of ensemble schemes. That narrower scope is a strength if the viewer wants a continuation centered on Dorothy; it may be less satisfying to someone expecting the original’s full cast to resume its familiar rhythm. The work closes a piece of the franchise’s personal history more than it promises to recreate the original’s entire structure.

Release format and where to check availability
The official title site markets Razbliuto as a movie, while DMM’s Japanese launch announcement describes a four-episode sequel released exclusively on DMM TV in Japan on February 23, 2024, with all four episodes available that day. Calling it a four-episode sequel presented as a movie captures both descriptions without implying a conventional standalone theatrical feature.
Distribution announcements are historical, and streaming rights vary by country. The official distribution page announced Crunchyroll outside mainland China and Manga Productions for Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and Sudan. Those announcements do not confirm that the series is currently in a particular country’s catalog, so check local listings before subscribing or making plans to watch.

For North America, an official announcement scheduled theatrical screenings for January 9–10, 2024. Those were past event dates, not a current viewing option. DMM’s launch announcement also said the original series’ 23 episodes became available on its service at that time; that is likewise not a guarantee of present access.

A catch-up option for the original series
A December 2023 Blu-ray.com report said Anime Ltd., in association with Shout Factory, planned a March 12 Blu-ray release of Great Pretender: The Complete Series. That is a physical edition of the original anime, not Razbliuto; the cited report does not establish a physical release for the sequel. Check current retailer listings for availability.
