Lorde’s Virgin and The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow received no nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards. Benson Boone was also included in contemporaneous coverage of the year’s snubs and surprises, though the available reporting does not specify which release or category was at issue. “Snub” is a media judgment, not an official Grammy designation, and the Recording Academy has not publicly explained these omissions.
What happened to Lorde and The Weeknd?
Lorde’s Virgin was shut out
Lorde received no 2026 Grammy nominations for Virgin. Rolling Stone UK reported the omission when nominations were announced; The Associated Press later described the album as shut out after the ceremony. The result concerns the 2026 awards and eligible recordings, not Lorde’s career or her music as a whole. Rolling Stone UK’s nomination-day coverage and AP’s post-ceremony account both report the omission.

The Weeknd’s submitted album did not become a nomination
AP reported that The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow was eligible and submitted for consideration in more than a dozen categories, including album, song and record of the year. It did not appear among the nominees. A submission places a recording before the process; it is not a nomination or evidence that voters selected it. AP also noted that The Weeknd had criticized the Academy after an earlier omission and returned to perform at the 2025 ceremony. That context does not establish why voters did not nominate the 2026 album. Read AP’s nomination-day report.
Benson Boone: named in coverage, with fewer details established
Rolling Stone UK named Benson Boone in its headline about the year’s snubs and surprises. The reporting established for this account does not identify a specific Boone release, submission or omitted category, so it would be misleading to present a more precise explanation as confirmed. The Academy’s complete list is the appropriate reference for checking any particular category or recording.

How to read a “snub” claim
The Recording Academy publishes nominations and winners; it does not designate artists as “snubbed.” That word is commentary about an omission that a writer considers notable. The official record can confirm whether an artist or recording appears among nominees, but it cannot reveal private voter reasoning. No cited source establishes why Lorde, The Weeknd or Boone did not receive the nominations discussed here.
The Academy said recordings released from August 31, 2024, through August 30, 2025, were eligible for the 2026 awards. Its November 7, 2025 announcement described the Grammys as peer-voted by voting members who are music makers across disciplines. The ceremony was the 68th Grammy Awards, held February 1, 2026, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The Academy’s complete nominees and winners list, dated February 1 and updated to reflect winners, is the primary reference for category-level results. The Academy’s initial announcement described its own published list as a sampling, so that announcement alone should not be treated as a complete check of every category. See the November 7 announcement.

- Lorde to release Standard & Deluxe vinyl pieces of her Grammy-nominated album, Melodrama
What stood out in the nomination announcement?
The Academy announced nominations across 12 fields and 95 categories. Kendrick Lamar led with nine nominations. Cirkut, Jack Antonoff and Lady Gaga each received seven; Bad Bunny, Leon Thomas and Sabrina Carpenter each received six. These are nomination totals from the Academy’s November 2025 announcement, not a measure of who ultimately won.
The contrast between those prominent totals and the absence of the releases discussed above helps explain why outlets framed the results as a mix of surprises and snubs. It does not establish that the omitted artists were eligible for every category, that every submission was considered in the same way, or that the Academy judged their work to be unworthy. The official process and nominee list support the outcome; claims about the reasons for it remain unsubstantiated.
