His reason is the absence of David Crosby, whom Nash described as the heart of Crosby, Stills and Nash. Nash repeated that view in interviews published in September 2026, but neither report presents it as a joint announcement by Stills, Young and Nash.
What Nash said about playing with Stills and Young
In an interview excerpt reported by MusicRadar on October 24, 2024, Nash said: “I don’t think that me and Stephen Stills and Neil Young will ever play together again.” MusicRadar’s report framed the remark around the group’s future without Crosby.

Nash gave a similar answer in a Boston.com interview published September 11, 2026. Asked whether he would tour again with Stills and Young, he answered, “No. Once David passed, the heart of the band disappeared.” He added, “So I don’t think it will ever happen.” Boston.com’s interview shows that he was still expressing the same expectation nearly two years after the 2024 report.
Why Crosby’s absence matters to Nash
Nash’s explanation is emotional, not a stated scheduling conflict. In the 2024 MusicRadar report, he said: “There’s no heart there. David was the centre of it all, as crazy as he was. And my God, he was crazy. But he was the heart of this band.” In a separate interview published September 5, 2026, he described Crosby as “the heartbeat of the band” and said that since Crosby had died, he did not think the rest of the musicians would ever collaborate again. The Arts Fuse interview likewise presents this as Nash’s view.

Is this an official decision by all three musicians?
No joint decision is reported in these interviews. The comments establish Nash’s own expectation; they do not establish that Stills and Young made or confirmed the same declaration. The Arts Fuse article also reports Nash saying Stills had retired and Young would not play CSN songs. Those are Nash’s characterizations in that interview, not direct statements from Stills or Young in the cited coverage.
Does this mean Nash will stop performing?
Nash’s answer concerns performing or touring with Stills and Young. It should not be read as a statement that he has ended his separate live work. The cited interviews do not establish that broader claim.

A related CSNY live recording
MusicRadar’s 2024 article mentioned Live at Fillmore East, 1969, a CSNY live release. It is relevant as a way to hear the group’s earlier performances, but its mention is not evidence of a reunion or a statement about the release’s current availability.
