Warner Bros. originally announced a theatrical release for November 19, 2027. In September 2026, the studio moved the film into October 2028. Who is making Gremlins 3?
Warner Bros.’ 2025 announcement named Chris Columbus as director and producer, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. September 2026 coverage reports that Hannah Marks is writing the current draft, based on a screenplay by Columbus, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein. That distinction matters: Marks is reported as the writer of the current draft, while the earlier screenplay credits are attributed to Columbus, Lipovsky and Stein.

What is known about the story and cast?
As of September 24, 2026, Variety reported that the official title, plot details and casting had not been announced. No rumored character or casting information should be treated as confirmed. The Los Angeles Times reported that Warner Bros. shared a brief teaser with the revised date announcement; it shows Gizmo peering out from a backpack.
How Gremlins 3 fits the franchise
The original Gremlins, directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus, arrived in 1984. Gremlins 2: The New Batch followed in 1990. The new film is the franchise’s first theatrical installment in decades. The series has also expanded through the animated prequel Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.

Warner Bros. announced the 2027 date in 2025, and the September 2026 reports describe a move to 2028. Jesse Ehrman, Warner Bros. Pictures’ president of development and production, said in the original 2025 announcement: “Few titles are as beloved and iconic as ‘Gremlins,’ and we’re beyond excited to bring it back for both lifelong fans and a whole new generation.” The announcement looked ahead to 2027, but that schedule is now outdated.

For the exact day, the current reports conflict: TheWrap says the studio post specified October 6, 2028, while the Los Angeles Times gives October 8. The reliable shared update is that the film is now set for October 2028.
