Globo’s documented decision was to cast Bella Campos as Maria de Fátima in the 2025 remake of Vale Tudo. The character is central to the story’s conflict with her mother, Raquel; the available announcements do not establish a separate, later decision to expand Campos’s role.
What Globo decided about Bella Campos
Globo selected Campos to play Maria de Fátima, the ambitious daughter at the heart of the remake’s central family conflict. Gshow reported on March 10, 2025, that the casting process took almost a year. Author Manuela Dias said Campos’s performance resolved her doubts about the choice: “Quando a gente viu a Bella, todas as dúvidas sobre Maria de Fátima caíram.” Artistic director Paulo Silvestrini put it another way: “Digo sempre que Maria de Fátima escalou a Bella.” Gshow’s casting report records the creators’ publicly stated rationale, not an independent assessment of the performance.
Why Maria de Fátima is prominent in this version
Globo’s official synopsis presents the mother-daughter relationship as the remake’s main dramatic engine. Raquel, played by Taís Araujo, believes in succeeding through honest work. Maria de Fátima wants glamour, fame, and money, and is willing to deceive her mother to pursue them. The character’s prominence follows from that conflict; it is not evidence that Globo separately announced a newly enlarged role for Campos.
The story begins in Foz do Iguaçu and moves to Rio de Janeiro as Maria de Fátima pursues social advancement. Dias framed the remake’s ethical question as: “A questão da honestidade é o assunto principal de ‘Vale Tudo’. É possível ser bem-sucedido sendo honesto?” Globo’s promotional question, “Vale tudo para vencer na vida?”, asks whether getting ahead justifies any means. These questions put Raquel and her daughter’s competing values at the center of the drama. Globo’s announcement and synopsis describe the premise and the creators’ stated approach.

How the remake relates to the 1988 original
The 2025 production is a remake, not the 1988 series. It was written by Manuela Dias, with artistic direction by Paulo Silvestrini, and based on the work of Gilberto Braga, Aguinaldo Silva, and Leonor Bassères. Silvestrini said the new version updated aspects of the story for contemporary audiences. The available official material establishes that broad intention, but does not support a detailed scene-by-scene comparison or a list of specific changes to Maria de Fátima’s plot.
Audience engagement is another part of the remake’s context, but it should not be mistaken for a verdict on casting. A 2025 academic study by Daiana Sigiliano, Cecília Almeida Rodrigues Lima, and Gabriela Borges examines TikTok fan activity around the series, including sharing, remixing, criticism, and scrutiny of casting and story updates. It offers a study of fan practices, not a measure of nationwide opinion.

What later remake decisions do—and do not—tell us
In a July 28, 2026 report, O Dia said Dias explained that she chose to leave Odete Roitman alive, saying: “Por que eu não matei a Odete? Porque a elite não morre.” That reported plot choice illustrates a divergence from the original, but it is separate from Globo’s casting decision about Campos. It does not establish that her role was later expanded.
Likewise, a separate April 28, 2026 report by Estadão, carried by UOL Splash, described Campos’s account of feeling oppressed and facing misogyny during production. The report said she did not name Cauã Reymond in that interview and that the outlet sought comment from Globo and Reymond’s representatives without receiving one by publication. Those details are the outlet’s account of her allegations and its response efforts, not independently established findings.
