O piloto também disse que queria correr desde os cinco ou seis anos, mas deixou essa ambição de lado antes de voltar a tentar em 2011, depois de abandonar a faculdade. Sua experiência ajuda a contextualizar o apelo dramático da história, mas não significa que jogar, por si só, prepare alguém para dirigir em uma pista real.

O envolvimento dele com o filme também foi além de servir de inspiração para o personagem. Mardenborough contou que os produtores o convidaram para pilotar nas cenas de corrida e que participou do projeto desde a concepção do primeiro roteiro, em 2019. Em entrevista publicada pelo PlayStation Blog em 24 de agosto de 2023, resumiu a experiência: “Foi surreal descobrir que o filme era uma possibilidade, e ainda continua estranho hoje.”

A Sony credita a direção a Neill Blomkamp, o roteiro a Jason Hall e Zach Baylin e a história a Jason Hall e Alex Tse. A página do estúdio lista versões digitais, Blu-ray, DVD e 4K Ultra HD.
