What does Grimes’ face tattoo look like?
Us Weekly described a faded red circle around Grimes’ left eye and brow; Music-News.com described a dark red circle around her left eye. The reports credit tattoo artist Glyphomancer. Grimes called the artist’s face-tattoo work “truly novel and innovative,” praising its “beauty, delicacy, and innovation,” according to Music-News.com.
Why did Grimes say people did not notice it?
Grimes said she had spent about ten years emotionally working up to a face tattoo. She joked that she had drawn on her face so much that “literally no one noticed,” including her parents and viewers of the video. Us Weekly quoted her calling the tattoo her favorite, despite its apparent imperceptibility.
Music-News.com reported that Grimes said she got the tattoo a few months before revealing it. The outlet did not give an exact application date.

Selected comments reported by Us Weekly and Geo News ranged from confusion about whether the tattoo was visible to jokes comparing it to a scar or ringworm. Other comments were positive. Individual remarks such as “Where’s the tat?” capture the visibility joke, but they should not be read as a measure of fan opinion: the reports cite examples, not a representative poll or survey.
What is the connection to “Artificial Angels” and an earlier tattoo discussion?
Geo News reported that the tattoo appeared in Grimes’ “Artificial Angels” video, released October 17, 2025. The outlet also reported that she had asked followers in 2022 about getting a white-ink face tattoo. These details provide background to the reveal, but the reports do not establish that the earlier idea was the same design or that it led directly to this tattoo.
