He received an 18-month suspended prison sentence, and his appeal is scheduled for November 16–20, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, the appeal had not yet been heard.
What the Paris court decided
The court convicted Depardieu of sexually assaulting two women during production of Les Volets Verts in 2021. The Associated Press identified them as a 54-year-old set decorator and a 34-year-old assistant. Le Monde described the younger woman as the director’s assistant and reported that both women wished to remain anonymous.
Presiding judge Thierry Donard said, as quoted by Reuters in reporting carried by Stabroek News: “He does not seem to have grasped either the concept of consent or the deleterious and traumatic consequences of his behaviour towards the women he assaulted.” Le Monde reported that the court considered the women’s accounts constant and coherent, while Depardieu’s statements changed significantly between police custody and trial. That is the court’s reported reasoning, not a separate assessment here.
Sentence and payments
The court imposed an 18-month prison sentence, suspended. It also ordered Depardieu to pay the two complainants a total of €29,040, according to the Associated Press, and directed that his name be entered in France’s national sex-offender database.

Separately, Le Monde reported that the court awarded each woman €1,000 for secondary victimization associated with the defense’s conduct during the hearing. That award was distinct from compensation for moral harm arising from the assaults.
When is Gérard Depardieu’s appeal?
Depardieu’s lawyer said he would appeal the May 2025 conviction. Le Parisien reported in February 2026 that the Paris Court of Appeal had scheduled the hearing for November 16–20, 2026. Those dates were still in the future as of October 8, 2026; the reporting available by that date gave no appeal outcome. Court schedules can change.

Which case does the appeal concern?
The scheduled appeal concerns the conviction over the assaults reported on the Les Volets Verts film set. It is separate from another proceeding relating to rape allegations by actor Charlotte Arnould, a distinction Le Parisien explicitly made. The film-set conviction should not be treated as a decision in that separate matter.
