The coconuts clopped back onto theater screens for Monty Python and the Holy Grail’s 50th anniversary in May 2025. Those announced U.S., U.K. and Canadian screenings have passed; Fathom Entertainment’s published 2026 Big Screen Classics lineup does not include the film, so there is no current Fathom date to point to. Sony Pictures lists the movie on digital, Blu-ray and DVD for home viewing.
When did the anniversary screenings take place?
Fathom Entertainment and Shout! Studios announced a theatrical rerelease to mark the film’s 50th anniversary. The dates varied by territory:

Fathom’s April 4, 2025 announcement said tickets were available through Fathom and participating theater box offices, but it also warned that participating locations could change. The announced schedule therefore does not confirm that any particular theater ultimately screened the film. The materials available do not provide a complete preserved venue list or attendance and box-office totals for this engagement.
Is Monty Python and the Holy Grail returning to theaters now?
Not on the basis of the announced anniversary dates: those screenings were in May 2025. Fathom’s published 2026 Big Screen Classics lineup, released February 12, 2026, does not list Holy Grail. That only establishes the film’s absence from that lineup; a theater or distributor could still announce a separate screening later. Check a local cinema’s current listings for any newly scheduled event rather than relying on the old anniversary announcement.
#1 Best Overall
- The entire Python gang star in this hilarious retelling of the Knights of King Arthur and their quest for the Holy Grail.
What was the 50th-anniversary event?
The event brought the comedy back to theaters as a Fathom Entertainment and Shout! Studios presentation. The film loosely follows Arthurian legend: Graham Chapman plays King Arthur, with Terry Gilliam as his squire and John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin among the Knights of the Round Table. Gilliam and Jones directed.
Sony Pictures describes it as the Monty Python team’s second movie. Its central quest for the Holy Grail also supplies one of its most recognizable jokes: Arthur’s knights have no horses, so servants create the sound of their clopping hooves by knocking coconuts together.
