9 TV Game Shows for Wordle Fans: How Their Wordplay Compares

Lingo is the closest format match to Wordle in this list, while eight other shows offer word puzzles, clues, partner play, phrase links, or survey guesses.

If Wordle leaves you wanting more wordplay, Lingo is the closest match in this list: contestants guess a five-letter word. Wheel of Fortune also centers on solving displayed word puzzles, while the other shows use clues, partnerships, phrase chains, or survey answers. The original article promised eight shows but named nine, so this corrected list includes all nine.

What makes a TV game show like Wordle?

“Like Wordle” can mean different things. Wordle is a daily puzzle built around guessing a five-letter word in six tries; a TV show might share that deduction mechanic, or simply make words, clues, and associations its focus. The descriptions below follow the nine programs listed in the January 21, 2022 NerdsChalk article, rather than asserting that each format is currently airing. NerdsChalk’s original list does not establish current broadcast status or where the shows can be watched.

Show Wordplay mechanic described How it compares with Wordle
Lingo Contestants guess a randomly selected five-letter word. Closest match in this list: direct five-letter word guessing.
Wheel of Fortune Contestants fill in blanks to solve word puzzles. A direct word-puzzle connection, though the task is not described as Wordle-style guessing.
25 Words or Less Teams communicate target words under a 25-word limit. Word association and vocabulary, but through constrained team clue-giving.
Million Dollar Password Partners try to guess an assigned password. Clue-based word association rather than solo puzzle deduction.
The $100,000 Pyramid Partners use hints to help one another guess associated words. Shared word association, played with a partner.
Jeopardy! Contestants respond to clues by framing the correct question. Clue interpretation and knowledge, not a hidden-word puzzle.
Chain Reaction Teams connect two-word phrases into chains. Word linking rather than guessing a single concealed word.
Tug of Words Teams answer word-clue questions during a tug-of-war contest. Clue-based vocabulary play within a team competition.
America Says Contestants guess answers drawn from public surveys. More about common responses than spelling or word deduction.

The closest matches if you want to guess words

Lingo

Of the shows in the list, Lingo most closely resembles Wordle at the level of its central task: guessing a five-letter word. The source describes its format but does not establish which version is currently available or airing, so treat that comparison as a format description, not a current schedule claim.

Wheel of Fortune

Wheel of Fortune is another straightforward pick if the satisfaction of revealing a word is what you enjoy. Its puzzles are completed by filling in blanks, making it a recognizable word-solving format, though the source does not describe it as the same kind of five-letter deduction game.

Shows built around clues and word association

25 Words or Less

Here, the challenge is not to solve a word alone but to help a teammate identify target words while keeping clues within a 25-word limit. It suits viewers who enjoy choosing precise hints and making associations under a constraint.

Million Dollar Password

In the described format, partners use clues to get one another to guess an assigned password. That makes word association the common thread with Wordle, rather than letter-by-letter deduction. The NerdsChalk page’s description of it as the latest revival of Password belongs to its January 2022 publication context, not a verified current-status claim.

The $100,000 Pyramid

This show also pairs people for hint-driven guessing, with one partner helping the other identify associated words. It is a better fit for someone who likes explaining a word or concept than for someone seeking a solitary puzzle.

Jeopardy!

Jeopardy! connects through clues and finding the right response, which contestants phrase as a question. Its overlap with Wordle is broad—interpreting prompts and retrieving an answer—not a shared word-puzzle mechanic.

Shows that make words part of a larger team game

Chain Reaction

Teams connect two-word phrases into a chain. The appeal is seeing how words link together, rather than narrowing down a hidden answer from letter clues.

Tug of Words

In the source’s description, teams answer word-clue questions as part of a tug-of-war contest. The combination of vocabulary prompts and physical competition makes it a looser match for a Wordle fan than a dedicated word puzzle.
