Furry creator Dennis Gunn was assaulted while street performing in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall on 3 May 2025, Federal election day. PerthNow reported that footage he shared on Instagram showed an attacker kicking him in the head. Gunn said people had first pulled at his costume and tried to take his sign.
What happened in Rundle Mall?
PerthNow reported on 6 May 2025 that Gunn, then 20, was dressed in a furry costume, interacting with passers-by and holding a “Vote 1 Furry Party” sign when the assault occurred. The report described footage posted to his Instagram as showing a high kick to his head, followed by Gunn stumbling, falling and rolling.
Gunn told 7News, as quoted by PerthNow, that people began pulling at his costume and trying to take his sign before he was punched. He described being with a family taking photos shortly before the assault. The report does not identify the attackers or establish their number or motive.
What did Gunn say afterward?
In the interview passages reproduced by PerthNow, Gunn described the activity as cosplay and street performing intended to spread positivity. He also said he had previously heard people yell things at him, but had not experienced anything like this attack.
