San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is in the municipality of Bermeo, in Bizkaia, within Spain’s Basque Country. The island, stone causeway and stairway are real. The official Basque Country tourism site identifies the landmark with Dragonstone, while Bizkaia tourism describes it as a protected natural biotope and pilgrimage site. Can you visit the Game of Thrones filming locations?
San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
Visitors can see the real island approach and climb the stairway to the hermitage. Bizkaia’s official visitor page reports 241 steps and places the hermitage about 150 metres above sea level. It also says reservations are required on special dates. Since it does not specify those dates or a permanent entry rule, check the official visitor and ticket information for the day you plan to go. Itzurun Beach and Muriola Beach
