She reported undergoing emergency surgery and later said she had recovered. Her account describes a personal medical emergency; it does not establish a treatment plan for other patients.
What happened to Gal Gadot during pregnancy?
In a December 2024 post, Gadot said she was diagnosed in February, during her eighth month of pregnancy, with what she called a “massive blood clot” in her brain. She wrote that she had experienced severe headaches for weeks, was taken to hospital after the MRI finding, and underwent emergency surgery. Her daughter Ori was born during the crisis. Gadot thanked the Cedars-Sinai care team and said she was fully healed when she shared the story. These details are her public account, not an independently reviewed medical record. What did Gadot say about her diagnosis and surgery?
In a later interview, Gadot added that some doctors had initially attributed her headaches to pregnancy hormones or migraine, and that her mother urged her to have an MRI. She said the baby was delivered immediately after doctors found the clots and that she underwent a thrombectomy. The Times of Israel reported her describing three clots. What is cerebral venous thrombosis?
Cerebral venous thrombosis, or CVT, is a clot in the venous side of the brain’s circulation, affecting cerebral veins or the dural venous sinuses. Pregnancy and the period after childbirth (the puerperium) are recognized risk contexts. CVT can present with headache and seizures, among other symptoms; a headache alone does not establish that someone has CVT.

The American Heart Association’s 2024 scientific statement says CVT accounts for 0.5% to 3% of all strokes. That figure describes CVT’s share of strokes, not the rate among pregnant people. The statement says diagnosis is based primarily on MRI with MR venography or CT with CT venography. See the American Heart Association scientific statement.
Does Gadot’s thrombectomy mean that is the standard treatment?
No. Gadot’s reported procedure is part of her individual case, not evidence that thrombectomy is appropriate for every person with CVT. The European Stroke Organization guideline suggests MR or CT angiography to confirm CVT and recommends parenteral anticoagulation for acute CVT. It could not make recommendations for thrombectomy or thrombolysis because the evidence was very poor. How should Gadot’s “3 in 100,000” figure be understood?
Gadot wrote that “3 in 100,000 pregnant women in the 30s+ age group” are diagnosed with CVT. That is a statistic she cited, not an independently verified estimate in the reporting cited here: the underlying study, population definition, and year are not identified. It should not be treated as a general pregnancy-specific incidence rate. Separately, the American Heart Association’s 0.5% to 3% figure refers to CVT as a share of all strokes, not a rate among pregnant women.
