Bobby Steveson, who wrestled for WWE as Damon Kemp, announced on July 8, 2024, that he was no longer under contract with the company. Contemporary reporting said WWE did not renew his contract, rather than releasing him in a round of cuts. His final reported WWE match was a June 25, 2024, loss to Tavion Heights on NXT.
Why did Damon Kemp leave WWE?
The confirmed outcome is that WWE did not renew Kemp’s contract, according to contemporaneous reporting by F4WOnline. That distinguishes his departure from a company-wide cut, but it does not explain WWE’s internal reasoning. No documented account establishes why the company chose not to renew.
Steveson announced his departure publicly on July 8, 2024. F4WOnline quoted his post: “As of today I am no longer under contract with WWE. Forever grateful for the people I met and the experiences I’ve had.”
When did Damon Kemp leave WWE?
The public announcement came on July 8, 2024. His last reported WWE match took place earlier, on the June 25, 2024, episode of NXT, where Tavion Heights defeated him. WWE’s profile identifies Kemp as the ring name of Bobby Steveson and records his NXT background, including his Diamond Mine and No Quarter Catch Crew storylines.

Is Damon Kemp related to Gable Steveson?
Yes. Bobby Steveson is Gable Steveson’s older brother. Both brothers signed with WWE, though the available reporting does not establish that Gable’s departure caused WWE not to renew Bobby’s contract. In August 2024 interviews, Bobby said the decision surprised him and that he hoped it was not connected to his brother’s earlier departure. He also said he wanted to keep wrestling, expressed interest in acting, and would consider returning to WWE, as reported by POST Wrestling.
What happened after Kemp’s WWE departure?
A later F4WOnline report, published August 7, 2026, said Steveson had wrestled on a handful of independent shows and begun releasing country music. That report also gives a July 2025 contract-expiration date, which conflicts with his July 2024 public announcement and the August 2024 interview coverage. The discrepancy is unexplained in those accounts, so the July 2025 date should not be treated as an established departure date. F4WOnline’s later report is the source of both the update and the conflicting date.
