He has also called filming hookup scenes highly technical and said nudity should serve the story. Those comments explain parts of his approach, but they are not one sweeping account of every provocative scene he has done, including his arc on You.
What did Lukas Gage say about the scene in The White Lotus?
Gage played Dillon in season one of The White Lotus. In episode four, hotel manager Armond and Dillon are discovered by Belinda and Shane, turning their encounter into one of the season’s most discussed scenes. The Guardian’s October 2025 profile recounts that Gage and Bartlett pitched making the act more explicit, and that creator Mike White agreed. Gay Times dates the moment to episode four.

Gage’s stated aim was to make an impression in a small role. As he put it to The Guardian: “I thought: I don’t have too much to do in the show so I’d better put my mark on it big,” he says with a smile today. “I wanted to give people something to remember me by – and I did!” That is his explanation for wanting the scene to stand out; it is distinct from whether he foresaw its reception.
Why the choice made sense to him as Dillon
In an interview reported by Bustle, Gage explained the scene in terms of character: he imagined Dillon as inexperienced in the gay world, and felt the choice fit that version of him. This is an account of how he approached a scripted role, not a statement about Gage’s own sexuality or private life.

He wanted provocation, not a viral moment
In comments from his appearance on The Zach Sang Show, reported by Gay Times, Gage said he wanted to push the scene further: “It was still going to be tidalating and fun, but I was like – it’s the provocateur in me – ‘Let’s go a little bit deeper. Let’s go a little bit more shocking.’ I just didn’t think the internet would take off like that when you’re filming.” The article prints “tidalating”; that spelling is retained here as published.
The distinction matters: Gage has described choosing a more shocking version of the scene, while also saying he did not anticipate the scale of the online response. The Guardian separately quotes him reflecting on the attention around the audition video: “I felt like people were much more mad about it than I was, which confused me,” he says.

How does he talk about filming intimate scenes?
Gage’s comments about intimate work are less about spectacle than process and purpose. In an Attitude interview, he described filming hookup scenes as “It could not be more technical.” In practice, that frames an intimate scene as coordinated performance rather than an unplanned private encounter.
He has also argued that nudity needs a reason. As quoted by Bustle, “I don’t think we should just be nude to be nude.” Taken together, those remarks point to a straightforward standard in his public comments: an intimate or nude scene should be worked out technically and should contribute to the story.

What about his scenes in You?
Gage’s You arc included a golden-shower scene, according to Attitude; Bustle reports that he suggested goggles for it. Those details establish that the role included provocative material, but the interviews cited here do not provide a comparable, direct explanation from Gage of how he personally felt about that specific scene.
It would therefore be misleading to treat his explanation of Dillon’s encounter in The White Lotus as a universal statement about every shocking scene he has performed. The available comments support a character-based rationale for the former, plus broader remarks about technical coordination and storytelling purpose—not a ranking of which scene he found most shocking.
