The six Friends actors were 25 to 31 on a documented production day in December 1994, and 34 to 40 when the series finale was taped in January 2004. Those are the performers’ ages, not the fictional characters’ ages—and the finale’s taping dates are different from its May 2004 broadcast date.
How old were the actors on a documented filming date?
A Warner Bros. Television call sheet lists all six principal performers for a production day at Stage 5 on December 13, 1994. Their ages below are calculated from their reported birth dates; the call sheet documents that day, not the start of filming for the series.

The Independent gives birth dates for five of the actors, while the Television Academy and Biography.com list LeBlanc’s birthday as July 25, 1967. The Independent gives June 25 for LeBlanc, so the table uses the date supported by those other two sources. The Television Academy identifies the six actors and their roles in its Friends retrospective; the production-day reference is a Warner Bros. Television call sheet.
How old were they when the finale was taped?
The Television Academy dates the two tapings of the two-part finale, “The Last One,” to January 16 and January 24, 2004. Using those dates and the same birth dates, the cast ranged from 34 to 40.

Aniston turned 35 between the finale tapings and its May 6 broadcast. The other five had not had a birthday in that interval. The Television Academy lists the taping and broadcast dates in its 2024 retrospective.
Were the Friends characters the same ages as the actors?
No. The numbers above describe the performers. The characters were written as young adults, but their ages and birthday clues are not consistent enough to treat every first-season figure as settled canon. The Independent’s account of the show’s continuity gives this comparison:

These are the Independent’s descriptions of character continuity, not a claim that the show supplies one conflict-free age for each character. For actor ages, use the performers’ birth dates and a clearly identified production or broadcast date.

There is no single age for the cast across the full run: each actor’s age changed as filming continued. A call sheet is a specific production-day record; it does not make that day the series’ first filming date. Likewise, “age when the finale was taped” and “age when the finale aired” are different comparisons.

The Television Academy’s 2024 retrospective also reports that the show averaged 25 million viewers a week during its heyday and that 52.5 million watched the finale. Those are historical figures reported by the Academy, not current audience measures.
