In January 2023, friends of Ana Walshe publicly urged Massachusetts officials to keep her three young sons together while their placement was being determined. At the time, Ana was missing and the boys’ future placement was uncertain. Reports reviewed here do not establish whether the friends’ preferred outcome occurred or where the children are now.

What Ana Walshe’s friends asked for

Friends wanted the boys placed together rather than sent to three separate destinations. WHDH identified Pamela Bardhi as a friend of Ana Walshe and quoted her saying, “Our dream would be if the boys are together, not separated, not given to foster care to go to three different destinations, that would be a huge help, I think that Ana would wish that.” WHDH reported the appeal on January 12, 2023.

Boston 25 News also identified Natasha Sky as an advocate. Sky said two families connected with her nonprofit were going through the court process to appeal for custody, and called on local authorities, especially the Department of Children and Families (DCF), to consider their appeal. Her comments describe the families’ efforts; the report does not establish the status or outcome of any court petition. Boston 25 News reported on January 12, 2023.

What was known about the boys’ placement at the time

WCVB reported on January 12, 2023, that the boys were ages 2, 4, and 6. Those are their ages at the time of that report, not their current ages. Friends were raising money as it remained unclear whether DCF would place the children with family. WCVB’s report describes the uncertainty facing the family and advocates during that period.

In a statement reported by CBS Boston, the Massachusetts Office of the Child Advocate said: “The state always works hard to keep sibling groups together unless there are reasons why one child might need a special placement.” This describes the state’s general approach; it is not a promise about the decision in this particular case. CBS Boston reported the statement on January 12, 2023.

What later reporting does—and does not—confirm

An Associated Press account of the 2025 trial described the children as being in state custody at that time. It does not say whether the brothers were placed together, identify their placement, or establish their current custody status. The available reports therefore do not confirm whether the friends’ appeal succeeded or whether the children remain together. The Associated Press report is limited to the information it provides about their custody during the trial period.
