Their relationship starts in London, during the trip for Ross’s wedding. Monica and Chandler sleep together, and what begins as a private encounter becomes a romance. The season-four finale marks the start; it is not the wedding or the later moment when their friends discover the relationship.

How their relationship develops, episode by episode
Season four finale: London
While the friends are in London for Ross’s wedding, Monica and Chandler spend the night together. They return to New York with their relationship still private. TV Guide’s relationship timeline and NBC Insider’s episode overview identify London as the beginning.
Season five: the secret comes out
Monica and Chandler continue dating without telling the others. “The One Where Everybody Finds Out” is the discovery turning point: their friends learn that the relationship is real, moving the couple from secrecy toward an acknowledged partnership.

Their relationship develops toward marriage, and Chandler proposes in the season-six finale. This is the engagement milestone, distinct from the wedding that follows in the next season.
Season seven finale: the wedding
“The One with Monica and Chandler’s Wedding” is a two-part finale. The episode guide dates the broadcast to May 17, 2001; that is the air date, not an established date for the wedding within the story. The reception continues into the next season’s premiere.

Season eight premiere: the reception and pregnancy reveal
“The One After ‘I Do’” picks up at the wedding reception. A positive pregnancy test briefly misdirects the friends, but the reveal is that Rachel is pregnant. Monica is not the one expecting a baby.
Series finale: the family milestone
By the end of the series, Monica and Chandler leave their apartment and adopt twins, Jack and Erica. Their story’s final major step is starting a family, rather than a pregnancy plot for Monica.

What the timeline can—and cannot—tell you
The episode order establishes the major relationship milestones, but it does not provide a reliable exact in-story calendar for every event. The wedding’s two-part episode is listed as a season-seven finale, while its reception story carries into the season-eight premiere. Broadcast scheduling and episode order should not be treated as proof of precise fictional dates or of exactly how many months pass between milestones.
