The apology circulating online under former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron’s name was not real, the company’s communications director told Men’s Journal. That correction was the “fresh twist” after a Coldplay concert kiss-cam video went viral. The video showed Byron embracing colleague Kristin Cabot; it does not establish the nature of their private relationship.
Was Andy Byron’s apology real?
No. Astronomer Director of Communications Taylor Jones told Men’s Journal the purported statement attributed to Byron “is not a real statement,” as reported by PerthNow. The post had circulated on X as an apology from Byron, but it was not an authentic statement from him.

PerthNow’s July 18, 2025 report said that Byron, Cabot, and Astronomer had not issued an official statement about the viral incident at that point. That report’s timing is important: the company later made statements about its response and Byron’s resignation.
What did the Coldplay video show?
At Coldplay’s Wednesday-night concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, a kiss cam showed Astronomer CEO Andy Byron embracing Kristin Cabot, then the company’s Chief People Officer. Frontman Chris Martin joked from the stage, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy,” according to The Nightly.

Martin’s line was a joke, not evidence that an affair occurred. The video establishes who appeared together and what the camera showed; the sources cited here do not establish the nature of their private relationship.
How Astronomer responded
Astronomer said Byron was placed on leave and that its board had opened a formal investigation, as reported by the Associated Press. On July 19, 2025, the company announced that Byron had tendered his resignation and the board had accepted it.
