Netflix’s August 16, 2022 announcement named four Brazilian series receiving new seasons: Sintonia, Smother-In-Law, Back to 15 and Love Is Blind Brazil. The announcement also mentioned two other continuing shows, so these four are a clear group from that update, not the only Brazilian series Netflix said would continue. Since then, Sintonia has reached its fifth and final season.
Which four Brazilian Netflix series were renewed?
In its August 16, 2022 announcement, Netflix confirmed another season of Sintonia and said it had recently announced second seasons of three other Brazilian series. The four titles were:
- Sintonia — renewed for another season in Netflix’s announcement.
- Smother-In-Law (A Sogra Que Te Pariu) — a second season had recently been announced.
- Back to 15 (De Volta aos 15) — a second season had recently been announced.
- Love Is Blind Brazil (Casamento às Cegas Brasil) — a second season had recently been announced.
The wording matters: Netflix’s announcement did not describe all four renewals as newly made on that date. It confirmed Sintonia’s renewal while referring to the other three as recent second-season announcements. Netflix’s announcement also separately said that Playing With Fire Brazil (Brincando com Fogo Brasil) and Invisible City (Cidade Invisível) had continuity guaranteed. That makes the four-title grouping useful, but not an exhaustive list of every Brazilian series Netflix said would continue.
What became of Sintonia?
Sintonia continued beyond the season announced in 2022. Netflix later confirmed a fifth and final season; its December 2024 announcement set the debut for February 5, 2025. Netflix said the story picks up four years after the preceding season and follows Nando, Rita and Doni onward. The reviewed announcements do not confirm a season beyond that fifth and final one. Netflix’s December 2024 update has the final-season details.
The series and its creators
Netflix describes the series as set on the fringes of São Paulo and centered on Nando (Christian Malheiros), Rita (Bruna Mascarenhas) and Doni (Jottapê). It is produced by Gullane, based on an original idea by KondZilla, and created by KondZilla, Felipe Braga and Guilherme Quintella. Netflix reported in August 2023 that all four seasons then released were available on its service; that was a statement about availability at the time, not a guarantee of what is available now in every country. Netflix’s series update covers the production and story details.
Netflix’s reported response to season three
Netflix said season three premiered July 13, 2022, spent two weeks in its global Top 10 for non-English-language series, and ranked third worldwide and first in Brazil in its opening week. Those are Netflix-reported rankings, not independent audience measurements. Haná Vaisman, Netflix Content Director for Fiction Series, said: “It is very significant to see that Sintonia continues to thrill and entertain the audience even after three seasons. This success confirms the immense talent of the teams in front of and behind the cameras, which allows many Brazilians to see themselves on screen”. Netflix’s 2022 announcement reported the rankings and quoted Vaisman.
