How free comics were distributed
Free Comic Book Day’s FAQ, published November 1, 2023, says participating shops set their own policies on how many comics visitors may receive. It states that visitors entering a participating shop would receive at least one, while the actual selection and quantity depended on local stock and turnout. The FAQ describes Gold titles as intended for every participating shop while supplies last; Silver titles depend on each shop’s order, so not every store will carry every Silver book. For event-day details, shoppers should confirm directly with the retailer.
DC also said its selected titles were available at local participating comic shops while supplies lasted and on DC Universe Infinite. That digital availability applied to DC’s selection, not the complete 24-title lineup. The statement appears in DC’s January 8, 2026 announcement.

Comics Giveaway Day was a separate same-day list
Penguin Random House Comics Retail also promoted Comics Giveaway Day for May 2, 2026. Its separate list contained 22 comics or samplers, including Garfield, Power Rangers #0, Sonic the Hedgehog #1, ALIEN, PREDATOR, & PLANET OF THE APES #1, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1000/QUEEN IN BLACK #1, SPIDEY & HIS AMAZING FRIENDS #1, and Disney Manga: Stitch! Best Food Forever! These titles are not additions to Free Comic Book Day’s official 24-title list. The PRH event article included a locator for its participating shops: Comics Giveaway Day 2026.

The official Free Comic Book Day announcement counted 24 titles, and PRH’s Comics Giveaway Day list had 22 entries. Those are title counts, not attendance or distribution figures. The official sources cited here do not establish 2026 attendance or the total number of comics distributed. An undated Diamond Comic Distributors dictionary page gives legacy figures of nearly 2,000 participating retailers and more than 2 million comics annually; it is not a verified 2026 count and should not be read as one.
