Yes. Francis Ford Coppola’s one-of-a-kind F.P. Journe FFC Prototype sold at auction in December 2025 for $10,755,000, according to Phillips’ official lot record. The “$1 million” figure was the auction house’s estimate, not the final price. Coppola’s description of himself as having no money referred to funds he had invested and borrowed for Megalopolis; it does not establish that he is currently insolvent.
What happened to Coppola’s watch?
Phillips’ New York Watch Auction XIII recorded the sale of Coppola’s F.P. Journe FFC Prototype in December 2025. The catalogue gave it a pre-sale estimate of more than $1 million and lists the completed sale at $10,755,000. That is the result for this unique watch, not a benchmark or guaranteed value for other F.P. Journe timepieces. Phillips also announced the auction result in its sale announcement.
What made the FFC Prototype unusual?
Phillips describes the watch as a unique platinum prototype made for Coppola, dated circa 2021. Rather than conventional hour hands, animated fingers indicate the digital hours; a rotating dial indicates the minutes. The catalogue identifies the lot as coming from Coppola’s collection and includes a Certificate of Authenticity and presentation box.
What did Coppola mean when he said he was broke?
In remarks to Rick Rubin on the Tetragrammaton podcast in March 2025, Coppola said: “I don’t have any money because I invested all the money, that I borrowed, to make ‘Megalopolis.’” He added: “It’s basically gone. I think it’ll come back over 15 or 20 years, but I don’t have it now.” The San Francisco Chronicle reported those comments in October 2025. They describe Coppola’s account of the money he had put into the film at that time; they are not an audited statement of his current finances.

How does Megalopolis’ reported budget compare with its box office?
The Chronicle reported an approximate $120 million investment in Megalopolis and about $14 million in box-office receipts. These are reported approximate figures, not a full accounting of financing, costs, distribution arrangements, later revenue, or returns to Coppola. They offer context for his comments but do not by themselves establish his overall personal financial position.
