What Fixer to Fabulous says it does
HGTV describes Fixer to Fabulous as a series in which Dave and Jenny Marrs restore and renovate historic homes in Arkansas. The network presents Dave as the renovation and craftsmanship specialist and Jenny as the designer. That is HGTV’s account of the show’s premise, not an independent audit of every project. HGTV’s series page also frames the work as preservation and renovation.
HGTV’s profile of the Marrses says network executives approached the couple after hearing about their reputation for restoring old homes in Northwest Arkansas. The profile also notes that the renovation of their Welcome Inn was documented in a limited series. These details provide background, but they remain network-published descriptions.
How much of each project reaches the episode?
Far less than the entire project. In a TV Insider report published April 27, 2026, Dave Marrs described the filming ratio this way: “The real answer [is] for every 43-minute episode, we film about 120 hours of footage.” TV Insider attributed the statement to a fan Q&A on the Marrses’ Instagram. It is a figure reported by a host, not independently audited production data. In the same report, Dave said projects “usually take about eight to 10 weeks each”—his description of a typical duration, not a schedule that applies to every renovation. A December 11, 2025 TV Insider report quoted Jenny Marrs giving a different footage estimate: 60 hours for a 43-minute episode. The reports do not explain why her estimate differs from Dave’s later figure of about 120 hours. They may refer to different episodes or estimates, but the available information does not resolve the discrepancy. Jenny also said that finished spaces sometimes disappear from the episode. She gave one example: “For example, the Ketners home has a fully renovated full bathroom for the kids, pantry and laundry room – these spaces just didn’t make the edit.” That is direct evidence of selective coverage: viewers may not see every completed room. It does not, on its own, mean the renovation was invented.

What the finished home and on-screen staging tell viewers
Furniture shown in a reveal is not necessarily a gift or a required purchase. In TV Insider’s December 2025 report, Jenny said that a sofa is offered to the homeowners at a discount if they want to buy it, and that they are not required to purchase it. The report says items Dave makes, along with some other items, remain with the homeowners. These are the Marrses’ reported descriptions; the homeowners’ agreements were not independently reviewed.
There is also a distinction between a real home renovation and the way a finished room is presented for television. The available reporting supports that rooms can be omitted and furniture may be offered for optional purchase. It does not establish the full arrangements for every home or every item featured in an episode.

What can—and cannot—be concluded about authenticity
In a July 13, 2026 interview with Realtor.com, Jenny Marrs said the show films in the family’s actual home and described the disruption that filming brings. She said, “We want to be open and authentic. We do want it to be real. We don’t live in a museum. We live in real life. It’s a challenge, for sure.” That is her account of their experience, not independent verification of how every episode is produced. Realtor.com’s July 13, 2026 interview
The distinction matters: the host accounts and HGTV descriptions point to renovation work and filming, while the footage estimates and omitted rooms show that an episode is a selective edit. The sources do not include raw footage, a public production contract, or a third-party investigation that could establish whether particular conversations, reactions, or scenes are scripted. So the evidence supports neither calling the whole series fabricated nor declaring every moment unscripted.
