Matt Pinfield suffered a stroke on January 6, 2025, and was still hospitalized when the news became public later that month. Subsequent updates described his move from intensive care to rehabilitation, his gradual recovery and, by 2026, his return to radio. Those public milestones do not amount to a current medical prognosis.
When was Matt Pinfield hospitalized?
Pinfield suffered a stroke on January 6, 2025. The Los Angeles Times reported on January 31, 2025, that he remained hospitalized. The report cited legal documents describing the stroke as “massive” and said his representative confirmed his hospitalization.
The same reporting covered his daughter Jessica’s petition for a temporary conservatorship. Statements about Pinfield’s capacity in that context were claims in legal filings, not an independent medical diagnosis.
What was known about his recovery?
March 2025: rehabilitation after intensive care
By March 13, 2025, Pinfield had been released from intensive care and was recovering at a Los Angeles rehabilitation center, according to the Los Angeles Times, reporting on his interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Pinfield said he had been unresponsive for two months and that doctors had not expected him to speak or walk again. Those are Pinfield’s recollections of what happened and what he was told, not independently verified clinical findings.

April 2025: physical therapy and hopes of returning
In an April 29, 2025 update, Pinfield said he was “slowly but surely recovering” through physical therapy and taking recovery “one day at a time.” At that point, he hoped to return to radio; that statement described his hopes then, not a schedule.
January 2026: Pinfield’s personal account
In a stroke-anniversary post reported by Parade on January 8, 2026, Pinfield said the stroke had left him in a coma for the better part of two months. He also said he was back on radio and continuing to work on his recovery. He reported hiking at Griffith Park and walking 11,000 to 12,000 steps, while noting that he still had areas with no feeling. These details are his personal account, not a medical measure or a general recovery benchmark.

Yes. In a May 26, 2026 announcement, California State University, Northridge, the SoCal Sound’s parent institution, said Pinfield had returned to the station one year earlier and hosted The Matt Pinfield Show on weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m. The announcement also introduced The Pinfield Sessions, a video-interview series.
The official announcement describes his weekday SoCal Sound program at that time. A KLOS station profile also describes him as back on air on weekends, but station schedules can change; check the station’s current listings for the latest programming.

The dated accounts document hospitalization, intensive-care release, rehabilitation, Pinfield’s own descriptions of recovery, and later radio work. They do not establish his full current medical condition or prognosis. A return to broadcasting is a public work milestone, not a substitute for a clinical update.
