What was reported about his death
MusicRow described Yarbrough as having endured a long period of ill health. The Associated Press reported that his daughter, Holly Yarbrough Burnett, had previously spoken publicly about his COPD and dementia and said he had received hospice care in recent months. Those reports provide context about his health, but they do not establish an official cause of death.

In a Facebook post after his death, Burnett wrote that her father was listening to “Baby the Rain Must Fall” as he died. The AP quoted her: “Dad was listening to Baby the Rain Must Fall when his breaths spaced out and he drifted up and out during the last chorus — catching a ride on the Perseids to his next Great Adventure. It was a very good death,” The AP noted that she did not specify a cause of death in the post.
