Sporting News reported on June 17, 2024, that circulating footage appeared to show an official alerting AJ Styles to ropes that seemed looser than usual before the event. The report connected that suspected issue with multiple awkward moments during the show. WrestleTalk also described the clip as unconfirmed, so it should be treated as an indication of a possible problem, not proof of a diagnosed defect.
The event was Clash at the Castle: Scotland, held in Glasgow on June 15, 2024—not WWE’s 2022 Clash at the Castle in Cardiff.
Which in-ring moments were linked to the rope concern?
Reports cited several rope-related moments, including Jade Cargill slipping on a springboard attempt and Damian Priest’s leg catching in the ropes. These are reported examples associated with the suspected rope issue; available reporting does not establish that loose ropes caused each one, or that they explain every mistake at the event.

No attributable statistic establishes how many rope-related mistakes occurred. The evidence supports describing a possible common factor, not counting incidents or assigning a definitive cause.

Does WWE’s ring design explain what happened in Glasgow?
WWE’s general ring-construction feature describes a standard ring measuring 20 by 20 feet and says WWE uses real rope rather than cable. WWE timekeeper Mark Yeaton notes that rope can break over time if it is not replaced often enough. This is background about WWE’s equipment, not evidence that a rope was broken, improperly maintained, or otherwise defective at Clash at the Castle: Scotland.
WWE has not provided a confirmed cause in the sources reviewed here. The clearest supported conclusion is that unusually loose ropes were a plausible explanation raised by footage and reporting, while the exact condition and its role in individual moments remain unverified.
