Jarrad Wrigley said he joined Farmer Wants a Wife hoping to meet someone who understood rural life and might become a lifelong partner. In an April 2025 interview, the Stanthorpe sheep and hemp farmer also spoke about the discomfort of being filmed in vulnerable moments, the qualities he wanted in a partner, and the country songs he wrote while working through difficult decisions. The relationship he pursued on the show later ended; Wrigley’s official artist site now highlights a separate milestone, naming him the 2026 Toyota Star Maker.
Why did Jarrad Wrigley go on Farmer Wants a Wife?
Wrigley told PerthNow’s Kellie Balaam that he saw the show as a chance to meet people who could understand his life and perhaps find a lasting relationship. “I just thought it would be a way to hopefully meet a lifelong partner,” he said in the interview published on 19 April 2025.
At the time, Wrigley was 21 and living in Stanthorpe, Queensland, where the interview described him as a sheep and hemp farmer. He also said he hoped eventually to buy back his great-grandfather’s former farm in New South Wales. That was an ambition he described in 2025, not confirmation that he later acquired the property. What did he say filming was like?
Wrigley said the cameras and crew felt unfamiliar when the experience brought private, emotional moments into view. “Not only do I have cameras in my face and on my potential partners, it’s also those vulnerable moments that people don’t normally see, it was very sort of alien, but I enjoyed it,” he told PerthNow. That is his account of taking part, rather than a general description of how every reality-TV production feels.

For other farmers considering the experience, he advised going in with an open mind: “If I was to talk to your average farmer I would say, just go into it with an open mind.”
What kind of partner was Jarrad looking for?
Wrigley described wanting a relationship that could accommodate both playfulness and ambition. In the PerthNow interview, he said a partner should be able to challenge him and build a future alongside him, while also being respectful, disciplined and family-oriented. He especially valued a sense of humour: “They need to be able to have fun; life’s too short and sometimes too serious. I’m a bit goofy, they need to be a bit goofy too”.

How does country music fit into his story?
Music was not just a side interest in Wrigley’s account of the show. He told PerthNow that he wrote a song during filming that helped him through difficult decisions. “I was born with a gift, telling stories and writing songs,” he said. The interview noted that his grandmother raised him listening to Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash.
Wrigley said he had released a couple of songs in 2022, spent years developing his sound and returned to the studio in 2024 to work on an album. His official artist website gives a later account of his career: it identifies him as the 2026 Toyota Star Maker and says he became the competition’s 46th winner in January 2026. The site promotes his single “Borderline Crazy.” Those are claims and descriptions from his own artist bio, rather than independently verified career records. The same bio describes a 2022 Tamworth trip involving more than 20 shows in six days, a third-place finish in the Toyota Busking Competition that year, and festival performances by his former band in 2024. These details help show the music work he was developing around the time of the television season; they do not establish what happened to the album he mentioned in 2025.

No. Although Wrigley joined the show hoping to find a lasting partner, he and Chloe Ilka later confirmed at the reunion that their relationship had ended. In its 24 June 2025 report, Pedestrian.TV said the pair had serious conversations and decided the relationship would not work; Ilka said their lives were on different paths.
