Jennifer Lopez plays Judy Robles, the mother of wrestler Anthony Robles, in Unstoppable, the biographical sports drama directed by William Goldenberg. The first-look images and interviews arrived on August 8, 2024, ahead of the film’s Toronto International Film Festival world premiere. Jharrel Jerome stars as Anthony, who was born without his right leg and went on to win an NCAA wrestling championship.
What the first look showed
Vanity Fair’s Rebecca Ford published the first-look feature on August 8, 2024. It introduced Lopez as Judy Robles and Jerome as Anthony, bringing the film’s central relationship and wrestling story into focus before its festival premiere. The feature also reported that Robles was a producer and doubled for Jerome during wrestling scenes.
Ford reported that Jerome spent months preparing with Robles and former Arizona State coach Brian Stith, including strength and wrestling training. Director William Goldenberg explained Robles’s hands-on role: “The idea was, I can’t make the movie unless Anthony does the more difficult parts of the wrestling.” These are details reported in the feature, rather than a claim that Jerome performed every wrestling sequence himself.
Who is Anthony Robles, and what is the film about?
Robles was born without his right leg and became a high-school and collegiate wrestling champion. He joined Arizona State University as a walk-on and won the NCAA title in 2011, according to the American Film Institute’s 2024 AFI FEST listing. Unstoppable adapts the broad arc of that journey, including the challenge of earning a place on an elite college team.

How the film handles real events
The film draws on Robles’s athletic achievements and family story, but a dramatization should not be treated as a scene-by-scene historical record. AFI FEST’s synopsis describes difficult family circumstances involving Judy and Robles’s stepfather, Rick, whom it characterizes as abusive. That synopsis establishes how the film presents the subject; it does not independently verify every exchange or incident shown onscreen.
