Nicolas Cage will play John Madden in Madden, an upcoming film directed by David O. Russell. Amazon says it will stream globally on Prime Video beginning November 18, 2026. Its official overview confirms the casting and says the page was updated with a trailer, but it does not describe Cage’s appearance in any particular frame; a visual breakdown would require referring to the trailer or an official still.
What Amazon has confirmed about the film
Amazon’s official film overview identifies the project as Madden, with Nicolas Cage as John Madden and David O. Russell directing. The overview was published August 6, 2026, and updated September 24, 2026 with the trailer. Amazon announces a global Prime Video debut on November 18, 2026; as of October 8, 2026, the film is still upcoming.
The page establishes Cage’s role, but its text does not inventory the trailer’s images or specify details such as costume, makeup, or how closely a particular shot resembles Madden. Those visual claims should be grounded in the trailer or an official still, rather than inferred from the casting announcement.
What story the film is set to tell
Amazon’s promotional synopsis follows Madden and Al Davis from their Super Bowl-winning partnership with the Raiders through Madden’s work as a football broadcaster and the creation of the Madden NFL video game. The overview also points to Madden’s relationship with his wife, Virginia, his friendships, and his love of football. This describes the story Amazon is promoting; it is not an independent assessment of the finished film.

Amazon’s overview says Madden coached the Raiders from 1969 to 1978 and led the team to victory in Super Bowl XI. It describes a broadcasting career spanning three decades and all four major networks, then places his partnership with EA Sports in 1988, when he lent his name and expertise to the game franchise that became Madden NFL.
The same overview gives Madden’s career winning percentage as .759 and calls it the highest among coaches with more than 100 career victories. Amazon does not identify the original statistical record keeper, so the figure is best understood as a statistic reported in its film overview, not an independently verified record here. Madden died on December 28, 2021, aged 85, according to Amazon.
